I qualified as a Remedial & Sports Massage (RSM) Therapist (level 5) with the Bristol College of Massage and Bodywork in 2016, in the same year, as a Personal Trainer (level 3).
RSM uses advanced manual therapy techniques, similar to physiotherapy, and is used either in a corrective maintenance context for managing musculoskeletal issues or in a regular preventative maintenance context to reduce the probability of issues arising in the first instance. These musculoskeletal issues could arise due to:
- sporting injuries (such as ankle sprain or runner’s knee) or overtraining,
- poor prolonged posture or working habits,
- faulty body mechanics,
- loss of flexibility and strength.
The Sports Massage aspect of RSM can be used more specifically to assist preparation for and aid recovery from sporting events.
As a professional member of the Massage Training Institute I am required to maintain my knowledge and skills through continuous professional development.
Sporting Background: I am a level 2 Running Coach and currently coach for Nailsea Running Club. I have also competed in many sporting events such as marathons and have twice completed the Ironman UK Triathlon (comprising a swim of 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and marathon of 26.2 miles) in 2016 and 2017. My current goal is to pass my 2nd degree black belt in Shotokan Karate in Spring 2019.
Through this combination of training and sporting experience I can assess, provide treatment and advise on rehabilitation exercises which aims to promote a healthy functioning body for my clients.
